Bridge Repair Could Take Up To Two Years

Repairs to a bridge on Jones Road could present traffic problems in that area in the Town of Winfield.


At the Winfield Town Board meeting last week, Highway Superintendent Dale Brown and Town Supervisor Bill Miller explained the situation following a visit this month by an engineering firm.


The consultant also looked at the Town’s sand barn, which needs some repairs. Miller said the bridge repairs could result in that portion of the road closed for up to two years.


It has received a rating of yellow flag by the state, meaning it can be used but needs repairs.


Complicating the repairs is the adjacent trout stream, he said. The state’s Department of Environmental Conservation will need to be involved for protection of the waterway.


“If it wasn’t for the trout stream this wouldn’t be half the issue it is,’’ Miller said.


Brown said if the bridge supports show erosion it might be cheaper to put in a precast unit.
