Brookfield Central School District voters will take another try at approving a 2024-25 budget.
The proposed budget on the ballot May 21 lost by two votes, 70-68.
The District can put up the original or a revised budget for a revote; if it is defeated also the District has to go with a contingency budget for next year.
Superintendent Ron Pavlus said the Board planned to meet Tuesday, June 4 to adopt a budget to put on the ballot.
The revote is June 18.
The Board of Education will also meet Tuesday, June 11 to present the second budget to the public and answer questions.
Pavlus said a Board meeting last week brought out a good turnout and good questions.
He said the Board listened to some concerns as well as cleared up some confusion.
Pavlus said some people thought they were voting on the District’s proposed Capital Project rather than the budget.
Under a contingency budget the District can do only what is mandated and considered essential.
All districts have to have a budget in place by July 1, so a third vote is not an
option.
About a dozen districts in the state had their budgets fail.
