BCS Sets Year’s Themes

Brookfield Central School will focus on three elements of education this year.

BCS Superintendent Dr. Tom Butler gave a 10-minute presentation at last week’s Board of Education meeting.

The half-hour meeting opened with a 10-minute executive session for Butler and Board members to discuss personnel.

Board President Valerie Nolan introduced students Lydia Peckham and Luke Rice, who will serve as the student representatives on the Board.

Nolan thanked those who attended a Meet and Greet for Butler and interim Building Principal Wendy Keehfus-Jones.

Business Manager Tiffany Lopesz said work is still being done to wrap up the 2025-26 budget.

She is working with the auditor for the annual audit being done.

Butler went over the work on the themes staff members did on their first day.

Groups worked on defining the words Teaching, Learning and Leading.

Teaching, Butler said, was defined to include knowing students, believing in them and letting them grow.

Learning explores how does a person who if they learned. Leaders talk about we and not I, the groups decided.

“We’re starting on a good positive path,’’ Butler said.

Butler thanked Peckham for her patience as a situation with her locker not opening is being addressed.

Two long-term substitutes were hired.

Dawn Thomas will run the library and Jensen Tanney will work as an Elementary teacher.

Board members approved the sale of excess equipment.

The next Board of Education meeting is Oct. 13.
