Barker Brook Wins Cup


On Sunday, Sept. 26, the 16th annual Wilson ‘Rube’ Brown Cup inter-club golf competition between the Seven Oaks Golf Club of Hamilton and the Barker Brook Golf Club of Oriskany Falls was held at the Barker Brook Golf Club in Oriskany Falls.


This tournament honors the memory of Wilson ‘Rube’ Brown, a special friend and fellow competitor of both golf courses.


In this year’s match between these two talented golf teams, the Barker Brook squad took full advantage of their home course to narrowly defeat the Seven Oaks squad by three points to win the Cup for the third year in a row and take an overall (9-7) lead in the competition.


Played in a Ryder Cup format, 32 members from each team competed in three individual 9-hole match play contests. The first nine holes of the two-man team competition used a Better Ball Format, followed by a nine-hole two-man team Alternate Shot Format, and then concluding in a nine-hole individual head-to-head Singles Format.


On a beautiful, warm, autumn sunny day the golfers opened play in a first round of Better Ball. This format got off to a surprisingly advantageous start as Barker Brook opened up an early large lead in this event by a score of 11.5 to 4.5.
