Vandals again made a mess of the public bathrooms at Babbott Park in Waterville, leaving them unable to be used for a Little League game.
Earlier this month DPW Superintendent Jamie Bechy said he received a call from coaches of Little League saying the bathrooms were not clean enough to use. When Bechy inspected them, he found they had been deliberately made unclean.
Bechy said it took just minutes to wipe and flush the toilets to repair the damage.
The Village does have outside security cameras and is reviewing footage.
This is not the first time the bathrooms have been targeted this year.
Bechy said maybe it’s time to consider opening them only for games and not available during the day for park users.
“If it continues I think we need to consider only using them for games,’’ he said.
FEMA has agreed to review more information from the village on the Halloween 2019 storm.
The village appealed the amount FEMA will provide to cover damages as it was well below the actual cost.
Bechy commented that it took FEMA six months to answer the Villages request for an appeal while the Village has 30 days to respond.
Mayor Gene Ostrander said almost five years after the storm that flooded the area there’s still no resolution, calling it sad.
Bechy said he spoke to John Salka after the DEC denied another funding request to help with flooding repairs.
During last week’s heat wave the air conditioning in Village Hall failed in the Sheriff ’s Office and parts of the Village offices.
Bechy said a replacement for a part in the control panel was ordered.
Now that the village owns the road between Waterville Public Library and the Firemen’s Field Bechy suggested treating it with stone and oil rather than just filling the potholes.
He will put that out for bid.
After repairs were made to water leaks in the village system water usage is down compared to a few months ago, Bechy said.
