The Clinton Central School Board of Education met Tuesday evening to discuss new business.
The meeting took place in the newly renovated elementary school media center and library.
CCSD Superintendent Christopher Clancy introduced Director of Pupil Personnel Services Elizabeth Dougherty to give an update on the work of the PPS Department.
Dougherty said the PPS Department has four main goals related to establishing a Collaborative Culture, Coordination between teachers, students, and parents, Consistency in providing support for students, and Communication between students, teachers, and parents about feedback and
support.
Pupil Personnel Services strives to provide an inclusive and welcoming culture at CCS and provide student-growth opportunities, according to Dougherty.
Collaboration is provided through a student and teacher-supported co-teaching model.
CCS teachers Laurie Dawes, Lauren Karas, and Tara Kellen spoke about their experiences under the co-teaching model and how it helps students develop socially, prepare students for grade transitions, and provide teachers with necessary opportunities to support as many students as possible.
Special Education has adjusted from a 12:1:1 model to a less restrictive ICT model this year, allowing students an increase in grade-level curriculum while maintaining strong support structure that allows for learning together and developing empathy in an inclusive learning environment.
