Slowly, Virus Restrictions Loosen


June looks to usher in more moves to reduce the restrictions in place since March 13 with the Covid-19 pandemic.

In what was like the best news shared last week, Clinton and Brookfield Central School Districts set their last day of the school year. As of Monday, Waterville had not announced when the year will end.

Clinton Central School Superintendent Dr. Stephen Grimm announced Friday that CCS will have its last day of instruction Tuesday, June 16. “ More information will be forthcoming regarding year end activities, but I wanted you to know about the official last day as soon as possible. Take care,’’ Grimm said in his message.

Brookfield will end the school year two days later, on Thursday, June 18. Students will receive their next packet of materials for remote learning Thursday, May 28.

How the new school year will look in September continues to be uncertain. Education will continue to remain online only through the summer.

In a daily briefing last week Gov. Andrew Cuomo said no summer school can take place in buildings but has to be done through distance learning.

Cuomo said schools will continue to provide breakfast and lunch meals to students through the summer. The governor said the summer school decision was made in part over concern about a strain of Covid-19 that shows up in children with serious complications.
