Superintendent Search Changes

Waterville Central School’s next superintendent might not start the job until next year.

At last week’s remote WCS Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Chuck Chafee, who is retiring at the end of June, outlined three scenarios to board members. The delay in finding someone is sparked by both the restrictions of the pandemic regulations and a way to save money in the 2020-21 budget.

After one candidate in February turned out not to be the right one, board members reopened the search. Shortly after making that decision the coronavirus outbreak caused schools to close and require social distancing.

Two of Chafee’s suggestions involve finding an interim superintendent until January.
