Voters in the Waterville Central School District will vote this week on a capital improvement project that looks to the future.
The Thursday, March 5 vote, open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Waterville Junior-Senior High School, would spend $12.8 million on improvements to the two schools, bus garage and Brothertown Stadium. Over 50 percent of the work, or $7.6 million, adds energy efficient systems that will save the district money.
The energy efficient projects, which include adding geothermal wells to use the earth’s natural heat to heat and cool the Junior-Senior High, took up the majority of questions and discussion at a public hearing last week. Superintendent Chuck Chafee described other energy efficient moves such as repairing the roof at Memorial Park School, changing lights throughout the district to LED and upgrading water heaters in both buildings.
Other projects at the Junior-Senior High are to remodel the cafeteria and kitchen for both energy savings and increased security and function. The original turf field…
