The Clinton boys varsity basketball team lost at home to Holland Patent last Tuesday night 91-81.
Clinton’s Tanner Deveans scored 29 points to lead all scorers but Holland Patent took control of the game early and held on to win.
It was a tough first quarter for Clinton as they were losing 23-14 at the end of the frame. Holland Patent's 23 first-quarter points were enough to keep up with Clinton through the first half as Clinton only scored nine points in the second quarter for 23 total first half points.
Unfortunately Holland Patent added 20 points in the second to take the lead into halftime 43-23.
Clinton put together a strong third quarter offensively but only outscored Holland Patent by two points 26-24. Clinton got big third-quarter contributions from Deveans and Eddie Llanos to cut into the lead, but Holland Patent comfortably sat in the lead to start the fourth quarter.
The pace of the game continued to be Clinton trying to cut the lead down, only for Holland Patent to push it back up. Everytime Clinton tried building a run, Holland Patent would answer with a defensive stop and a basket the other way.
Clinton outscored Holland Patent 32-24 in the fourth quarter but Holland Patent never allowed the score to get close enough for Clinton to threaten the lead. Holland Patent's 15-point lead held through most of the fourth quarter.
