Last fall Dave and Mary Newsom visited their neighbors in Brookfield when she invited them over for coffee.
They came home $40 poorer after the neighbor, Sue Rogers, asked them to support the Waterville Area Food Pantry by buying two tickets for the Pantry’s fund raiser. The Newsoms set the tickets aside and forgot about them.
“We don’t win things,’’ Dave said. “Well, once I won a massage thing. I gave it to her,’’ he said of his wife.
When Rogers called them the Saturday night after Thanksgiving and said they won, the Newsoms had no idea what she meant. “Won what? The car. What car?’’’ Mary said of their conversation.
