Second Half Run Gives Indians Win


After grabbing the first offensive rebound of the second half, Darren Johnson passed to Gabe Williams on the other side of the Indians net.

The Waterville point guard spun and hit the turnaround jumper to break the 26-26 halftime tie. After leading by as much as 12 in the first half, 20-8, the Indians could not hold off an 18-6 Sherburne-Earlville run to close out the first half at Waterville.

Williams’ shot started a 10-0 Indians run, with the remaining eight points coming from freshman Tyson Maxam on a shot sequence of a 3-pointer, free throw and spin and in to go up 36-26 with 3:22 left in the quarter. A minute later the Marauders finally found a shot vs. the Indians defense, but never came close to threatening as Waterville improved to 3-1 with the 58-44 win.

Waterville opened by taking a 12-6 lead after the first quarter. Connor Marriott scored four of those points, but with 3:03 left in the first period Williams had picked up foul No. 2.
