Mustangs Nip Warriors In Last Minute


Under the Mount Markham basket, Elizabeth Wratten blocked the Mustangs shot and sent the ball to Clinton teammate Mariah Seward.

Two dribbles and Seward whipped the ball downcourt to Megan Bremer, who connected on the layup for two points. That pulled the Warriors to within 48-44 with 3:10 to play.

With a minute and a half to go Clinton made it a one-basket game, but ultimately could not close the gap and lost 53-48 to Mount Markham. Clinton ended the week at 1-3.

The first quarter went back and forth with two ties and the teams exchanging baskets. Seward and Ella Morse both hit 3-pointers, with Seward scoring on a driving layup from an inbounds pass by Morse to tie it at 8-all at the end of the period.

Clinton’s five on the floor, no matter the lineup, constantly disrupted the Mustangs offensive plays. In particular Seward on steals and Katelynn Williams and Wratten underneath the basket kept the Mustangs from scoring.

Gianna Trunfo grabbed a rebound to start the second quarter, hit Morse with a pass and then Morse found Sydney Evans underneath for Clinton’s only lead, 10-8. Two free throws by Mount Markham a few seconds later tied it before both teams went cold on offensive for three minutes.
