Indians Score 49 In Big Win


On first down from the 48 early in the third quarter, Waterville made one of their rare mistakes in the game at home vs. Onondaga Friday night.

The Indians fumbled on the handoff to the intended runner. But as they learned to do this season of rejuvenation, Waterville turned something bad into something good.

Senior Darren Johnson recovered the ball and somehow powered his way through the Onondaga defense for a 52-touchdown run that put Waterville up 35-6 after Trystin Graham’s third point after kick was good.

Even that lead wasn’t enough, as Waterville went on to score again and then again for a 49-6 win over a team that Dolgeville needed two overtimes the week before to beat.

This wasn’t just the best game of the season for the 4-2 Indians. The last time they put a hurt like this on a team from start to finish, these varsity Indians were playing the game in Pop Warner.

On a beautiful night for football, the Indians showed this season’s Pop Warner players how the game should be played. From start to finish, they pushed Onondaga out of the way; after five games when the Indians defense spent much time on the field, this night was all about the offense.
