A photograph taken by a Waterville High School graduate has gained a lot of attention on national media.
Mike Lemery, who is a professional photographer and filmmaker living in Schenectady, captured a once in a lifetime shot. He is the son of Lynne and Dave Lemery of Waterville.
While on vacation on Cape Cod over Labor Day weekend with his fiancee, Lemery, in describing the incident on his blog, said he was in the right place at the right time. He captured a Great White shark breaching out of the water, what he called a one in a million chance of happening.
In his profession, Lemery specializes in sports and wildlife. For the past five years he has been working on a full-length documentary about bald eagles.
The shark photo came about when the couple was on Head of the Meadow beach. Lemery said he had done some research on their vacation spot and was aware Great White sharks had been sighted in the Cape.
