On a sprint Wiley Gifford deflected the ball up ahead to teammate Maddie Luke.
Luke needed just a step before she banged the ball forward into the Mount Markham net. That gave Luke and the Clinton girls varsity soccer team goal No. 2 in the first 11 minutes of their home game.
By the time the game ended, Luke had herself a hat trick and the Warriors had their fifth win with a 7-0 topping of the Mustangs. Clinton led 4-0 at the half.
Off to a strong start - having yielded just two goals this season in a tie with Newark - Clinton debuted at No. 4 last week in the state Class B poll. As the highest ranked Section Three team, the Warriors are one spot ahead of Holland Patent, a team they beat earlier this month.
The Mustangs came out strong on offense to start the game, but goalie Kaitlyn Williams made a couple of catches toward her season-high eight saves.
