Although Waterville controlled the offense more than did Utica Academy of Science, the Indians boys varsity soccer team could not get the ball in the net.
Home last week vs. the Atoms, Waterville carried a 5-0 record into the game with four of those wins shutouts. At the end of an intense 80 minutes of soccer, the Indians had added to each of those accomplishments.
Senior Austin Hutchins flipped a low pass to Marco Barberi with 5:26 left to play. Barberi sent a roller kick in from the left to score the game’s only goal.
Also, Waterville came home with an exciting 2-1 overtime win at Cooperstown, again beating an opponent that has dominated in recent years. the Hawkeyes took the early lead, up 1-0 at the half.
Hutchins scored the first goal off an assist from Jeremy Lakata and then scored again in the second sudden-win overtime to keep the Indians unbeaten at 7-0.
Goalie Cole Pearsall stopped 10 shots, with some incredible saves in the mix.
Against UAS, Hutchins took a shot 80 seconds into the game that just went wide. He, Barberi, Keegan Reilly, Jaxson Sonia, Jacob Barth and Rocco Padula peppered the UAS goal all game but a nice job by the Atoms goalie stifled all but the one kick.
