Whether the Knights were Golden or Emerald, last week the Clinton boys soccer team prevailed in their tilts.
Clinton improved to 3-0 with wins over Holland Patent and Hamilton. The Warriors beat HP 8-0 and then traveled to Hamilton Saturday, where they won 5-1.
Home against Holland Patent, the Clinton squad overwhelmed the visitors with thee quick goals, taking a 3-0 lead in the first 12 minutes. Seamus Gale and Mathew Lewis scored, with Ethan Carr and Josh Trask adding the first-half’s other goals for Clinton with one coming on a penalty kick for a handball in the box.
Late in the first half, Coach Michael Scheiderich rotated players in and off the bench, but the Golden Knights still couldn’t get much done.
That came about because the Clinton defense - with great effort from Jacob Lewis, Harrison Hutchings and goalie Owen Saunders - took away HP shot opportunities.
