Before the 16 members of the Brookfield Class of 2018 entered the gym last Friday for commencement, Brookfield Board of Education president Bernie Whitacre spoke to them in the library.
“Congratulations and we’re all proud of you,’’ he said. “Always remember where you came from.’’
For the next 90 minutes, after the graduates entered a gym packed with proud family, friends and teachers, everyone celebrated what it means to come from a small and special place.
Seniors Molly Head and Ryan Ferris gave the welcome, calling it a bittersweet moment. “Each one of us has overcome academic and athletic obstacles,’’ Head said.
