One team came into the game with one loss. The other came in with one win.
But a pitching dual played out at Brookfield when Waterville came for a varsity baseball game that proved records do not tell the full story. In the end, the more experienced Beavers took a 7-3 victory that, with other wins last week, put them atop the Central Counties League with nine wins to no losses and an overall record of 13-1.
As for the Indians, they played a solid game that hints at better results to come as players gain experience. Neither team could do significant damage against BCS pitcher Tyrell Owen and Waterville’s Ryan Morris.
On a beautiful sunny day made for baseball, the Indians came out swinging to start things off. Bobby Shepherd opened with a single and then scored on a deep center double by Gavin Bell just two batters into the game. Bell advanced to third on a fielder’s choice, but was stranded.
Two putouts at first base helped limit the Beavers to just one baserunner when Colin Bugbee reached on a single and the Indians took their lead into the second inning.
