The Hockeyville Community

When Clinton earned the title of 2018 Kraft Hockeyville USA last month, the community joined a list of just 17 other communities in the United States and Canada to win such a prestigious title.

Over the next weeks, the Times will showcase those other 16 communities as well as update readers about events and news in regards to Clinton’s title, including information on the pre-season NHL game that was awarded by Kraft and the NHL, what improvements will be done with the $150,000 grant provided and other details about the big week-end.

This week, meet Clinton’s fellow 2018 winner of Lucan, Ont., the Kraft Hockeyville Canada winner.

Lucan is southwest about two hours from Toronto with a population of 4,700. The closest city is London, Ont.

The Lucan Community Memorial Centre is home to the Lucan Irish junior hockey team and Lucan Minor Team. the Centre also has an auditorium, gymnasium and a hall known as Leprechaun Hall.

Because of the Lucan Irish, the community used green as its rally color to beat three other Canadian communities for this year’s title. Green ribbons decked many houses and places in the town.

Logan Couture, a player with the San Jose Sharks, started skating in Lucan.
