‘This Place’ Shown In Four Places

Anja Chavez, museum director at Colgate University, and Tracy Adler, museum director at Hamilton College, worked together on an exhibit that includes both academic museums and Skidmore and SUNY Albany.

To see the full array of photos in the ‘This Place’ exhibition will require more than walking through a museum.

It will also involve driving.

In the first collaborative show of its kind in Upstate New York, Hamilton College and Colgate University are two of the four campuses displaying photos taken of the West Bank and Israel by 12 photographers between 2009 and 2012. Also taking part is Skidmore College and SUNY Albany, which are also within a half hour of each other.

Tracy Adler, Johnson-Pote director of Hamilton's Wellin Museum, and Anja Chavez, director of Colgate’s Picker Gallery, said the two museums have long discussed some type of cooperative endeavor. “When we talk with our nearest peers it’s been on the wish list to collaborate,’’ Adler said.

Wellin and Picker, along with the two museums at Skidmore and Albany, are in an interesting position in bringing in people to see their traveling and permanent collections. While on college campuses that are used as educational classrooms for their students, they are also open to the public as is any museum.
