Waterville Resident Starts Own Financial Business

Waterville Resident Starts Own Financial Business

In November, Clint Kane took the leap he had been dreaming about for years.

Kane, who lives in Waterville, opened his own financial consulting firm. Kane Financial is in the Big Apple Plaza Five in New Hartford.

While attending SUNY Poly, where the Waterville Central School grad obtained his degree in 2007, he worked as an intern for larger businesses. After spending 14 years with two firms, Kane wanted something smaller.

“It’s always been a dream to run my own business,’’ he said. “I learned a lot at the two firms where I worked. A huge part of going out on my own is the personalization that comes when you’re so hands on in your own company.’’

Kane is a registered investment advisor, which is regulated by the state and holds those with the designation to a higher standard. One of those standards is that financial planning advice is always done in the best interests of the client, rather than making suggestions that might be more broad-based for the general customer base.

Kane’s practice focuses on retirees, or those who want to retire in the next 10 years, and small business owners. “Some people have a plan, some people need help getting started,’’ he said.
