Brookfield Church Mission: To Help One Of Our Own

Members of First Baptist Church in Brookfield have taken their mission work to places in need around the United States and in Haiti.

After all the thousands of miles logged to help others, the church’s Mission Team prayed on where to go next. The answer they heard turned out to be a mile and a half down the road.

The church, led by the 13 members of the Mission Team, is raising money to buy a used mobile home for two church members. Once funds are raised to move the home to Brookfield, get it ready, prepare the site and perhaps add a new well, Lynn and Lulu Laraby will be able to move into their new place on Beaver Creek Road.

Last year, said Pastor Mark Thall, the Mission Team began discussing where to go next. “We talked about going back to Haiti, and we’d like to do that some day,’’ Thall said. “We also saw need in Appalachia.’’

While discussing the next project, the Brookfield church folks met with an interdenomination group in New Berlin that takes on a local project each year. Some of the Brookfield Mission Team spent a day with the New Berlin group taking on a major cleanup of a property on Route 8 last year.

“We saw the effect that had on one site, with all that effort,’’ Mission member Rupert Kinzelmann said. “We also thought after a good discussion with everyone here that we needed to establish a community presence.’’
