100 Years

South Columbia World War II veteran Jimmy Andrecheck receives birthday wishes from members of the Richfield Springs American Legion Post 616 the day before he turned 100. His wife, Mary, turns 101 Oct. 6; the couple have been married 75 years. Andrecheck served in the Army Air Corp as a ball turret gunner on a B-24. His military service includes missions during D-Day at Normandy. He told everyone how the cook in his barracks would put all the ingredients for ice cream in a 20-gallon can and the squad would take the plane up to 20,000 feet to freeze it and make ice cream. The Andrechecks still live in the home they bought 74 years ago on McKoons Road.
