We Bid A Fond Farewell To India, Komal


Our visit to India was coming to a close.


The Thomson family headed directly from the Bansal house in Vapi to the Mumbai airport, while Julia Soderqvist and Johan Selin jetted to Delhi for a brief vacation before heading back to Sweden.


My family, Erica Davis and Autumn Wadsworth returned to Mumbai, too, but we planned to stay overnight at a hotel and do some sight-seeing the next day before our late-night flight back home.


Toward the end of our three-and-a-half-hour, pulse-raising drive from Vapi, I noticed—as did our other group members in their cabs—that our voices grew hoarse and we began to cough slightly as we neared Mumbai. Even with windows closed tight, the city’s air pollution affected our lungs.


We checked into our hotel rooms and headed to a second-floor restaurant for a wonderfully relaxing dinner and much-needed bottle of wine. After a good night’s sleep, we enjoyed a breakfast buffet before checking out...
