WCS Celebrates 150 Years As School District

In May a celebration at Waterville Junior-Senior High School will recognize the 150 years of the Waterville Central School District.

WCS Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Spring said at last week’s WCS Board of Education meeting last week an event is planned for 9:30 a.m. May 16 in Brothertown Stadium.


This will recognize that WCS became a school district 150 years ago.

Spring said research shows WCS was the 53rd school district recognized in New York state.


She also explained a project that all students will undertake this year.

“In the lower grades each class will interview an alumn,’’ she said. “In the higher grades each student will talk to a Waterville graduate.’’

Those interviews will be written up and videotaped and then donated to the Waterville Historical Society.

According to the Waterville Historical Society, the first schoolhouse was built between 1787 and 1789.
