So far no one can come up with a way to have the Village of Waterville force the owners of the sinkhole to fill it in.
Village resident John Mariani attended last week’s Village Board meeting.
He called the sinkhole in front of Schoolhouse Apartments an eyesore and a hazard.
He asked if there are any remedies the village can apply. “Not to our knowledge,’’ said Mayor Gene Ostrander. “We’ve been in touch with everyone we can think of up to our Congressman.’’
Mariani said his cousin, who is the Codes Officer in the Town of Salina, suggested that the village could look at state codes for enforcement power.
“Something needs to be done,’’ Mariani said.
