Utica Bread Rises Locally


A little taste of Utica has made its way to the Village of Clinton.

Utica Bread has opened a store on Chenango Avenue. In addition to housing a branch of the bread company, there is an attached pizzeria named Vit-za. The store is open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.

Utica Bread’s main location is in Bagg ’s Square at 412 Main St. in downtown Utica. The company also has a storefront in New Hartford on Genesee Street.

The artisan bread company bakes about 150 loaves of bread daily. From Utica sourdough to multigrain to deli rye, it’s first come, first served.

There are 10 different bread types on the Utica Bread menu. Pastries, cookies and other meal options are also available.

Jason Ginsberg, general manager at the bread company, said to make the artisan bread, it’s an arduous process, with bakers coming in at 2 a.m. to prepare dough and bake.
