Tornado Warning Whistle Discussed For Kirkland

The Town of Kirkland Board met Monday evening to discuss new business.


Kirkland Senior Center Director Sharleen Machold thanked the Highway Department for the cleanup job in Clark Mills.


"We helped over 500 people in the week after the tornado," Machold said.


The Clinton Lions Club is having its annual picnic at Firehouse No. 2 July 22.


Resident Mike Champlin spoke with the Board about the tornado damage and the warning system from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.


Champlin encouraged residents upset over the format of the warning system of the NOAA to write letters.


"Blaming residents for not setting their smartphones properly isn't happening just here in CNY, but in the flooding in Texas," Champlin said.


A member of the public asked if it would be meaningful to write letters to the Town.


Town of Kirkland Supervisor Bob Meelan said, "I think it would be more helpful if you emailed the county."


Chairman of the CNY Snowmobile Club John Witherton met with the Board to discuss opening the trail back up to snowmobiles in winter.


Meelan said the Board was hesitant to risk grant funding because of a requirement for no motorized vehicles on the trail.


Witherton said there is a concession through the State that snowmobiles are not motorized vehicles.


A member of the public spoke to the Board to voice her and her neighbors' resistance to a local solar project.
