Softball Team Congratulated

At the May meeting of the Richfield Springs Board of Education congratulations were given to the RS/ODY varsity softball team.


The Eagles reached the Section Four Class D championship game, where they lost to Deposit-Hancock 7-0 when the winners pitched a perfect game.


Also that night 140 people supported the 2024-25 budget and 52 did not.


The proposition to buy a bus passed 141-51.


Nancy Duevel won re- election with 156 votes.


Scot Mondore was re-elected as a write-in candidate with 11 votes.


Also at the meeting Board members praised the dedication given to Cati Sobers at the instrumental concert.


She was a sixth grade student at Richfield Springs who died in April.


During the meeting Superintendent Tom Piatti talked about the SBI Distinguished Service Award ceremony.


He congratulated the recipients of the Herkimer Region Foundation College and Career Scholarship.


He said he is looking forward to a presentation by Patrick Mannion, 5th Judicial District Regent, at the next Superintendent cabinet meeting and also talked about a Portrait of a Graduate, a collective vision for student success.


Elementary Principal Dr. Rene Wilson Dr. Wilson thanked Stan Grose for his dedication to the district.


Secondary Principal Matt St. Peter also congratulated the softball team and talked about Grade 8 field testing.


Board member Becky Marzeski said Mr. Smith has been working on designing an informational pamphlet on the Community Literacy Partnership Committee Outreach Program and is hopeful to partner with the Little Lamb Preschool and Head Start.


Board members approved having RS girls and boys varsity and modified soccer teams combine with Owen D. Young for the next season.
