Sheriff Hears Concerns About Town Accidents

The Town of Bridgewater Board met this month to discuss new business.


The updated Town Office hours are Mondays 9 a.m. through 12 p.m. and 4:30 through 6:30 p.m., Tuesdays: 9 a.m. through 12 p.m., Wednesdays: 4:30 through 6:30 p.m., Thursdays: 9 a.m. through 12 p.m., and Saturdays: 9 a.m. through 12 p.m.


The Board approved a resolution accepting the March meeting minutes.


Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol met with the Board for a conversation about concerns in the Town.


Boardmember Christopher Haar said he noticed an unusual amount of speeding traffic, particularly along Route 8.


Maciol and the Board had a short discussion about the revenue distribution from tickets, and how the Sheriff's Office doesn't receive any revenue from traffic tickets.


Maciol asked when the speeding was most common and if the Town had ever conducted a traffic survey in the area.


The Board replied a speed study was done within the last three years, however a traffic study has not.


Haar referenced the recent numerous fatal traffic accidents that occurred in the Town.


Maciol explained some of the New York state's required conditions for caution lights and roadway changes.


Maciol suggested Town of Bridgewater Supervisor Dale DeKing contact Village of Clinton Mayor Elizabeth Tantillo for information on the policing agreement between the Sheriff's Office and the Village of Clinton as an example of a contractual arrangement the Town may be interested in.


There was a short discussion about the Sheriff's Department's logistics and priority calls.

The Board shared with Maciol some concerns regarding a property in violation with animals on a roadway and concerns of malnourishment and neglect.


There was a discussion about establishing a towing rotation for car accidents.


There was a short discussion about providing a map for the wellhead protection zone to the Sheriff's Office.


BMX Track Manager Erika Carrier met with the Board to provide updates on the condition of the track.


Carrier listed the numerous improvements made over the last few years and requested a multi-year extension of the lease with the Town.


The Board approved a resolution to amend the BMX lease to allow overnight parking for the Gold Cup Race weekend.


Jerry Perry said the Water Department received a few calls about a hookup for a property and availability for another.


Perry said the water system seems to be working pretty good. Dog Control Officer Jamie Dremiller reported the Ag and Markets Inspection Feb. 26 went well.


Two loose dogs were tracked with one being adopted and the other placed in foster care.
