Waterville girls won the Section Three Class C basketball title Saturday with a 39-31 win over West Canada Valley at OCC. The Indians never trailed in winning their first sectional title since 2018.
Up next the Indians head west for the third weekend in a row, this time to Cicero-North Syracuse High School. Waterville plays Section Four Class C winner Newark Valley in the regional contest at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12. The Cardinals come in to the game at 22-1 and as the state’s No. 1 ranked team in Class C. Waterville is No. 13. Newark Valley, in the Southern Tier, won their sectional championship 59-19 over Delhi. The team has five seniors and has won the league two years in a row, including a 67-12 win over Whitney Point in this year’s league title game. They led 48-0 at the half.
The winner moves on to the Class C Final Four state tournament at Hudson Valley Community College for a game at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, March 19. The winner of that game plays in the state title game Sunday, March 20 at 10 a.m. at HVCC.
