Salute To Veterans And Families


Richard "Dick” Newton grew up in Unadilla Forks, graduating from West Winfield High School in 1965, and then earned an associate degree in data Processing from Cobleskill.

He enlisted in the Air Force in 1967, but strangely, did not go to basic training at Lackland Air Force Base. Due to a meningitis outbreak, Lackland was closed from 1966 to 1968, so Dick’s basic training was at Amarillo AFB, Texas.

A quick summary of Dick’s 25.5 year career looks like this: 12 enlisted years at eight separate locations; 13.5 officer years with five assignments; a total of 13 jobs, earning seven Commendation medals and four Meritorious Service Medals.
