The Mount Markham Board of Education met Tuesday evening to discuss new business.
Board President Jay Kulczak began the meeting by greeting the public in attendance before District Superintendent Joe D'Apice shared the correspondence for the meeting.
The Grand Opening of the Stewart's Shop in Bridgewater celebrates their ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 2 at 10:30 a.m. The MMCSD Foundation has been invited as a beneficiary to the celebration and a $2,000 donation will be made to the Foundation from Stewart's.
D'Apice introduced newly hired Middle School Principal Sean Carone. Carone spoke to the Board about his gratitude at the opportunity and his plans for the Middle School.
Carone said he wants to put more of a focus on parent involvement this year. The schedule for the Middle School is almost finished and the buildings are almost ready for students.
Carone shared that a housing system will be implemented with the Middle School sometime in the first few months. The House System is being installed to encourage student camaraderie and competition throughout the Middle School.
In previous years, similar systems were unbalanced and didn't encourage the grade-to-grade social development expected from the new system. Boardmember Jessica Maine asked Carone some questions about the logistics of the system, saying she was "very excited" for the program.
