Mustangs Win, Move On

The Mount Markham boys varsity basketball team defeated Pulaski 65-50 in the first round of Sectionals Friday night at home.


The Mustangs, No. 3 in Class B and 19-2, hosted Solvay Wednesday night.


The winner moves on to the semifinals Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. at Phoenix vs. either Skaneateles or Cazenovia.


Pulaski won the opening jump ball before a defensive rebound by Owen Jones to start the game.


PCS grabbed a defensive rebound. Caden Walker grabbed a steal, leading to Blake Grower assisting Owen Jones on a short jumper.


PCS grabbed an offensive rebound and made two free throws.


PCS grabbed a defensive rebound before a turnover out of bounds.


A PCS block was rebounded by Jones who made a free throw.


Jacob Donley grabbed an offensive rebound and Walker made a putback.


Evan Kocienda grabbed a defensive rebound before a MM turnover out of bounds.


The teams traded scoreless possessions until a steal by Jones led to a PCS steal and layup.


Donley assisted Grower on an and-one layup and free throw. A steal by Grower led to a MM turnover out of bounds.


Walker grabbed a defensive rebound and assisted Donley on a jumper.


Jones made two technical free throws and PCS grabbed a defensive rebound for a layup. The teams traded scoreless possessions until PCS made a runner.


Jones assisted Kocienda on a layup. Donley grabbed a steal, leading to Jones making a putback to end the first quarter with MM leading 16-8.


Donley assisted Kocienda on a layup to start the second quarter.
