Mustangs Move On To Semifinal

The Mount Markham varsity football team defeated Sandy Creek 9-6 at home Saturday afternoon in the first round of Sectionals.


In winning the first round of the Section Three Class D playoffs the Mustangs beat an opponent who gave them one of their two regular season losses.


The 7-2 Mustangs lost 20-15 at Sandy Creek in their sixth game.


Mt. Markham, the No. 3 seed, moves on to play Np. 2 Cato-Meridian, 8-1, Friday at 6 p.m. at Jordan-Elbridge High School in the semifinals.


The winner of that game goes on to play either No. 1 Dolgeville or No. 4 Beaver River at the JMA Dome Thursday, Nov. 14 at 5 p.m. for the sectional title.


The Mustangs needed extra time to keep playing in November.


The SC kickoff to open the game was returned 18 yards by Arjay Piersma.


An interception on the first play from scrimmage was returned 21 yards.


Richie Inman and Cashen Atwell stopped a three-yard rush on first down.


Caden Walker made the second down tackle.


Jamison Young and Evan Kocienda made the third down tackle after a 10- yard rush.


Kocienda made the tackle on first down.


Eric DeKing made the tackle on second down.


Young made the tackle on a third down pass.
