The Mount Markham Mustangs varsity football team lost 28-8 to Dolgeville in Sectionals Friday night.
The loss in the Class D semifinals at Central Valley ended the season for the Mustangs at 7-3; two of those losses were to Dolgeville.
On a warm night unlike early November weather, the game started with a 16-yard kickoff return by Noah Trago. On 1st and 10 from the 31-yard line, Eli Pasquale took the snap right on a triple option, pitching it to Dom Jones going left.
Jones broke around the Dolgeville defensive end crashing down the line and outran the defense for a 69-yard rushing touchdown. A personal foul against Dolgeville on the extra point negated a blocked PAT.
Shaun Jones converted the two-point conversion from the one-yard line with a rush.
Dolgeville returned the MM kickoff 30 yards to the 42-yard line. Nathan Hartman made the tackle to stop a rush for one yard on first down.
DCS ran a toss sweep right for four yards with Christian Jones making the tackle. On 3rd and 5, Dom Jones wrapped up the ballcarrier after a four-yard rush and Noah Trago forced a fumble recovered by Jeraud Kelly.
On MM's 1st and 10, Jones rushed for five yards on a blast left. On 2nd and 5, Shaun Jones was pulled back awkwardly on a tackle with the defender falling across his legs.
After an injury timeout, two holding penalties, and 0-yard rush, Dom Jones rushed for seven yards on 3rd and 24. Giovannia Barletta's punt was returned 13 yards from the 28 to the Dolgeville 41-yard line.
Dolgeville ran a toss sweep left for 18 yards with Thomas Doremus making the tackle. Dom Jones made the tackle on a one-yard fullback dive. After an offsides, Trago and Doremus made the tackle on a five-yard rush on 2nd and 4.
Trago and Brad Burke made the tackle on an 8-yard rush and Dolgeville rushed for an 8-yard touchdown on their next play. Dom Jones made the tackle on the two-point conversion attempt to keep Mt. Markham in the lead at 8-6.
