Mt. Markham Hires Director

The Mount Markham Board of Education met in-person Tuesday evening for their reorganizational meeting and regular business meeting.

The meeting began with Mt. Markham Board of Education President Cynthia Miller talking about Mt. Markham CSD's relationship with the Rural Schools Association. Representatives of the BOE attended a RSA meeting Miller described as, "Informative and inspiring." She said the RSA's work in expanding educational opportunities for students in districts like Mt. Markham is substantial and she's excited to see how those opportunities will be expanded for Mt. Markham.

MMCSD Superintendent Joe D'Apice introduced newly-hired Director of Transportation Craig Manderville. D'Apice credited Manderville for his work so far and the seamless transition he's made in joining Mt. Markham. Manderville spoke to the Board, thanking them for the opportunity and crediting his staff with making his job easier for him.

Miller was sworn in for another term as President of the BOE while Boardmember Jay Kulczak was nominated and sworn in as BOE vice president.

D'Apice then spoke about the adjustment he's been making over his first full year with the District. He pointed out one of the things you don't think of right away is the building layouts and where everything is throughout campus.

D'Apice had specific gratitude for help in learning the building plans. "Without Keith Williams," D'Apice said, "we'd be lost. He knows everything about these buildings and his help in getting me up to speed has been tremendous."

Miller seconded D'Apice's praises for Williams, saying the Board was lucky to have someone so beneficial to Mt. Markham on the team.

D'Apice thanked the Board for the vote of confidence after his first year with Mt. Markham.
