MM Mustangs Come Up Short

The Dolgeville boys varsity basketball team defeated Mount Markham 86-67 in the Section Three Class C Sectional Final Sunday afternoon at Onondaga Community College.


Dolgeville was the top seed and moves on to the Regionals Saturday in Binghamton vs. Moravia. The winner goes to the state Final Four.


Dolgeville won the opening jump ball before turning possession over to Mt. Markham by throwing the ball out of bounds. Mt. Markham scored the first basket of the game when Gio Barletta assisted Will Lunny on a three.


Lunny blocked a shot rebounded by Bryce Lynch before a defensive rebound by Dolgeville led to a made layup. The team's traded empty possessions with a Jake Senko deflection being stolen by Lunny before DCS took the lead 4-3 on a runner.


Barletta grabbed an offensive rebound and assisted Senko on a layup to give MM a 5-4 lead. DCS tied the game on a free throw before making a three.


Lynch converted a steal with a layup and DCS made a three. Lynch made a free throw beforeDCS turned the ball over out of bounds.


Lunny knocked the ball off a DCS player after a defensive rebound to give possession to MM, and DCS made a three after a defensive rebound. Lynch grabbed an offensive rebound before Lunny grabbed an offensive rebound and Dolgeville blocked a shot before turning the ball over out of bounds.


MM called timeout with 2:21 to play in the first quarter and DCS leading 14-8. A Dolgeville deflection and steal led to a putback.


Lunny grabbed a defensive rebound as the teams traded empty possessions until DCS made a three. DCS made a mid-range jumper and Lunny made three free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt.


Dolgeville turned the ball over with an over and back and a travel before a deflection by Lynch was stolen by Senko for the last play of the first quarter.


DCS rebounded the first MM shot of the second quarter and made a three. Senko grabbed a defensive rebound and assisted Carter Deak on a baseline jumper.


Dolgeville made a free throw. Lunny grabbed a defensive rebound and went coast to coast for a layup.


A deflection by Lunny was stolen by Kevin Gates and Lunny was fouled on the floor. Lunny then made a stepback And-1 three and the free throw.
