Marshall Water Project Hears No Objections

The Town of Marshall monthly Board meeting took place Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The minutes of the July 14 meeting were approved.

The meeting was conducted by Supervisor Colleen Baldwin.

There were no public comments, other than a question concerning the new Codes Enforcement Officer, Bob Harris.

He will be at the September meeting; he had a conflict for this month.

Planning had no business to report.

He and Councilmember Ken Ford talked a little about the Comprehensive Plan.

The Planning Committee has received and reviewed about 700 surveys.

They are now looking at maps and reviewing different sections. Then work begins on the zoning laws.

Right now, they have a rough draft.

Baldwin expressed worry about smoke shops opening in the Town.

She was told the Town had opted out, so the window when a zoning law could be made has closed.

However, Zoning Board of Appeals Chairman Jamie McNair said the Town could determine where the smoke shops are located, for example not near a school or church.

Also, anyone who wants to operate a smoke shop in the Town of Marshall would have to apply for a permit.

The Comprehensive Plan can limit who can apply for a permit, and also apply conditions.
