Kirkland Gives Last Extension For Violations

The Town of Kirkland agreed last week to give a property owner one more extension to address codes violations.


The owners of 7614 Route 5 have two weeks from the meeting to take care of everything the Board stipulated.


If they have not done all that is required, the Town will knock down two of the buildings that have collapsed, with the property owners paying the bill.


Town Building/Codes Inspector Bob Harris reviewed what has happened so far.


Two of the three buildings on the property are in such bad shape they are safety hazards, he said.


The property is in a floodwayand not a flood plain, Harris said. A flood plain would allow the owners to rebuild. A floodwayprohibits rebuilding on the site.


One building has collapsed, and the debris needs to be removed. A second building is falling down and either needs repairs or removal.


Both buildings were condemned months ago by the Town.
