Kirkland Explains Process For Solar Commercial Farm

The Town of Kirkland Board met Wednesday evening to discuss new business.


A resident asked the Board if a proposed solar project needed an Article 7 permission.


Town Attorney Tony Hallak replied no. A resident asked, "How are we going from agricultural zoning to power plants in our backyards?"


Hallak replied, "After reviewing zoning and Gov. Hochul's directives, solar farming is a permitted use on agriculture. The application process has yet to go before the Town Planning Board and larger scale projects require a Special Use Permit."


Town of Kirkland Supervisor Bob Meelan said there is no application for the project on Brimfield Street.
