The Mount Markham Central School Board of Education met Tuesday night to discuss new business.
MMCSD High School President Victor Zampetti presented an update to the Board about preparing students for the job application with mock interviews in the Guidance Office.
Students were given a selection of job descriptions to study and were graded on their interview skills, personal appearance, and knowledge of their job choice.
Zampetti spoke about the goal of giving students real-life experiences and helping prepare their career readiness.
Boardmember Elisa Gigliotti asked about the format of the interview process.
Zampetti said students would choose their job to apply for the morning of the interview, and the interviewees are teachers from around the district.
MMCSD Middle School Principal Sean Carone presented the 2023-24 fifth through eighth grade New York State Assessment Data.
Carone said the MMCSD Middle School is underperforming in ELA and math proficiency.
Carone said he's aware of the proficiency rates for MM and he is working on implementing the Amplify program for ELA and Math.
The 5th Grade and 8th Grade proficiencies are at the State average.
There was a 94% participation rate in the math and ELA tests, with 96% participation in the science exams.
Boardmember Phil Casler asked Carone his assessment of the fluctuation of the proficiency rates across the grade levels.
Carone said the district moved to a full computer-based testing model over the last few years, and students seem to be positively adjusting to the new format.
Carone said the participation rates over the last few years have increased dramatically.
Casler asked about how the assessment information would get back to teachers so they could use it as a tool for improvement.
Carone said the tests were very guarded, and there's no way for the teachers to purposefully teach to an evolving standard as the tests change the specific focus of their content year to year.
