Clinton Warriors Will Be Replaced

The Clinton Central Schools Board of Education met Tuesday evening to discuss new business.

CCS Superintendent Chris Clancy gave an update regarding the CCS Warriors mascot name and its impact on the Clinton School District. Clinton will have to change the Warrior mascot name because of its previous association with Native American imagery.

Clancy said he attended a forum at OHM BOCES to provide information to school administrators about what medical professionals are seeing from children in response to the pandemic.

Board member Luke Perry asked about the District's educational strategy of teaching students about social media. CCS Middle School Principal Dr. Shawn Carney said that there's an extensive social media educational program offered for students but because of the staggered structure of classes, some students are already engaged online before they take the class.

Board member Lisa Magnarelli asked about the District's cell phone policy in the High School and Middle School. Carney and High School Principal Dr. Matt Lee gave a quick overview of the cell phone use policy and the few circumstances where cell phone use is allowed.

Clancy said Regional Superintendents will be conferencing with Sen. Joe Griffo and NYSED Commissioner Dr. Betty Rosa April 26.

The 2023-24 Budget Hearing is scheduled for May 9 at 6:30 p.m. and the Budget Vote is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16 from 12 to 8 p.m.

In this week’s Times the four candidates for the Board of Education introduce themselves and explain why they are running.
