CCS Middle Schoolers Share Love Of Poetry



This year’s annual Literacy Clinton Out Loud event at Clinton Middle School will flood the community with poetry.


Since 2017, the school’s English Department has led an all-school day of celebrating the written word. This year the focus is on poetry.


All year the school’s 284 students have been studying poetry of all types and have written their own poem.


Those original pieces of poetry will decorate the Village Green in Clinton this Friday.


Friday is also National Poetry Day.


As part of the daylong focus at CMS students will string their poems throughout the Green.


The poems on the Green have a purpose that will draw in community members.

People will be encouraged to take a poem with them.


If they then read that poem out loud in selected places along Park Row - participating stores will be listed - the reader receives a prize.


Students examined poetry styles from around the world.


Eighth grader Daniel Gus liked Harlem Renaissance and Korean poetry.


“Sijo is about daily life,’’ Gus said. “It was very interesting.’’
