After six months of empty buildings, Waterville Central School will re-open this week and welcome back students and staff.
Teachers started the 2020-21 year last week with training days. Students at WCS returned Sept. 8 on a four days a week, half-day schedule with Wednesdays scheduled for remote learning only for all students except those in special education classes who qualify for a fifth day.
At last week’s WCS Board of Education meeting of 45 minutes, administrators said they were confident the year would be off to a good start. Most of Waterville’s approximately 800 students will be partaking in the in-class hybrid plan with a small percentage opting for either remote only or home schooling.
The district does not have a Universal Pre-K program this fall.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Kathy Davis said signage was put in place last week to direct traffic flow and indicate changes in room use. Teachers began their year with a kickoff gathering in the High School gym.
“They will have safety and training and department meetings,’’ she said. “Day two is for professional development for the target areas they indicated what the needs are.’’
Waterville called on staff members as trainers. Bus drivers underwent safety training.
