The Town of Kirkland Board met Wednesday, July 15 for regular business. The meeting began with a presentation by Sharon Williams from the Kirkland Trails Group.
Williams provided an update into the operations and plans of the group and the current projects they have going.
Among the positive developments for the group over the last year include a noticeable increase in interest for the group and new tax exemption status from New York state. Kirkland Trails Group currently has a fundraiser underway and is planning a study on the other side of Town near the mitigation ponds. The study is necessary for grant applications.
An upcoming project is the grading of the trail surface. A use permit is being applied for to limit trail use to pedestrians and medically-necessary vehicles, as well as other signs for expected behaviors while using the trails system.
Hamilton College President David Wippman gave a presentation to the Board about the reopening of Hamilton College in the fall. Most of the details are the same regarding student safety and limited off-campus access. Athletics canceled for the fall season is the major recent development.
A public hearing for a Solar Energy Law has been set for Aug. 26 at 7 p.m.
Town Supervisor Bob Meelan said nothing is guaranteed with the Clinton Arena reopening. "We're trying to figure something out that works for everybody," Meelan said. “Everything is up in the air though, we don't know if we'll have anything."
The next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 10, 7 p.m.
