Wheelie, a cat at Clinton’s CPV Rescue and Sanctuary, had his first birthday party at the rescue March 14. Wheelie was brought to the rescue last June with paralyzed legs and tail. Through various therapy methods, “he’s slowly regaining movement in his back legs,” Mare Clarey, director of operations at CPV Rescue, said. Over the year, Wheelie has become a bit of a mascot for the rescue. Wheelie had an entire fundraiser calendar dedicated to him for 2020. At his birthday party, Wheelie’s picture was on candles, mugs and catnip toys. There was even a coloring book page dedicated to the cat. Those who attended the birthday party had a chance to bid on various raffle baskets as a way to raise money for the rescue. Katie Bassett and Rebekah Sebastian of Clinton spent time deciding which baskets to pick. Wheelie’s birthday party raised just over $1,400 for the rescue. In addition to monetary donations, community members filled a van with bottle and can returns.
