The Clinton Warriors girls hockey team used suffocating defense to take their unbeaten streak to 12 games in a row and claim the first Section Three title in program history.
Ariel Williamson, Drew Kopek, and Mia Lopata were selected to the sectional All-First team and Lopata received Player of the Year honors. Isabella Callahan and Hailey Millington were honored for making the All-Second Team.
Winning the sectional title in the fifth year of the program’s existence sends the Warriors, a team of players from several local school districts, to the state’s Final Four. Clinton (12-2-3) plays Section Ten winner Salmon River.
The Shamrocks are 17-0-2, with one of those ties earlier in the year with Clinton. The semifinal game is set for 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7 at the Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid.
The winner moves on to the state championship game the next night vs. the Section Six/Section Seven winner.
Clinton advanced to the sectional title game by beating Oswego at the JFK Arena in Rome Clinton's defense held firm against Oswego as Hailey Kwiatkowski scored the eventual game-winner off a pass from Kopek.
